Hey guys. Just bought a 2006 Daytona Charger R/T. 216,000km. My friend used to own it. It has the symptoms of a dropped valve seat but it's strange. He dropped his kid off at school and when he went to restart it, the car shook and then shut off. Typical for a failed valve seat. He got it towed to the dealer where the mechanic said it dropped a valve seat due to being overheated and it would be $7000 for a used engine. He then offered my friend $500 for the car.
I bought it off him as he's buying something new now. Just got it home and started checking it out. I plugged my Predator in to check for codes and no trouble codes were found. I tried to fire it up and it fired up right away but started chugging and shaking. No metal grinding or knocking sounds though. Just chugging. I shut it off. I pulled the coil pack for cylinder #1 and on one of the plugs, the tip was bent and had some metal shavings on it. No oil or anything on it though. Just some shavings. I pulled the second plug and nothing was wrong with it.
My friend said the car did not overheat when the issue happened. It overheated three years ago due to a bad water pump but he got it all replaced and it was fine after that. I did notice coolant spray though in the engine bay. Appears to be coming from the bottom of the T-stat housing.
Any thoughts?
