Hi, all. I'm looking at buying a Charger Interceptor. The car has 176k hard miles on it from police use, but the price could be right.
It drove and stopped well, and honestly didn't have that much rust on it for an NH cop car.
During moderate or higher acceleration on the test drive, my friend and I heard a squeak coming from the engine bay. It seemed to happen at any RPM, as soon as you gave it enough gas.
To me, it sounded like a chirp or squeal, very rhythmic, maybe a few to several times a second. At redline, the squeaks were coming so fast that they almost merged into a continuous squeal.
From my reading, this isn't Hemi tick.
When we got back from the test drive, I revved the motor gently in park, and there seemed to be a rattle or grind from a pulley or tensioner, but it sounded totally different from the squeak.
Could a loose belt chirp like I heard instead of squealing constantly? Does the sound come on under load because the motor is torqued slightly on the mounts?
