Hey Everyone,
So I'm looking at the Chevy SS (probably a couple grand more than I'm willing to pay but we'll see if they come down), it comes with Potenza RE050A tires and I was wondering if these will crack at winter temps. I won't be driving in snow so traction is not really my concern, even traction on dry roads in winter, I'm really just wondering if these will crack if it gets cold. The car would be stored outside but I actually have tire/wheel covers that I use when it snows so I could use those in cold temps too.
I've looked everywhere for tire temp ratings but couldn't find anything other than blanket statement saying summer tires can crack in cold weather and lose all grip. Even in the Charger I've had some times where it was in the single digits (last year's winter sucked here in MA) and the car fishtailed on the highway on dry roads. I know better now than to accelerate fast at all when cold.
I'd get winter tires/wheels but I have no place to store my summer tires during winter or the winter tires in summer (Eastern MA), also can't find a good deal on winter (or even all season) tires and steel wheels which I think I'd rather put on than keep the real rims. My Charger's tires are getting pretty close to worn (16k miles I can't believe it) so even if don't get the SS I won't make another year with the stock tires anyways so this info will be helpful on that as well.
Thanks!
