I'm coming from an 06 Magnum. It felt very familiar but I was impressed with the power. Even though it's only 30 more it felt a lot stronger. I think the transmission has a lot to do with that. Originally I was thinking of getting the Road and track package version because of the 3.07 rear end, performance pages and the black pocket wheels. But the standard has plenty of power and I understand you can add performance pages to a regular RT. The wheels are optional on Permium package versions.
My complaints? Black interior, all black. The 06 has a pretty ugly gray interior, it looks like a dead elephant, but at least I can see it and know its clean. They don't make a B5 blue with red interior, only the white if you get the premium package. I guess that would be what I want.
The transmission. Question for you all, does it have a harsh upshift under normal throttle? My main reason for posting is to ask about this. It felt unrefined. I like a hard upshift when I am flooring it, but my NAG1 has Cadillac smooth shifts during normal driving. This car felt harsh. Other than that it felt like a great trans. The car felt eager to go with I assume lower first gear ratio than my car. On the test drive I accelerated normally half way across an intersection, then floored it and it spun the tires:racing:
That was awesome!
The trunk is also a little small. Not compared to other cars these days, but just in general it is hard to go from a Magnum to a sedan. I fit two large suitcases and a stroller in the back of the magnum on vacation just the other day. I don't think the stroller would have fit on top of the luggage in the Charger. In the Magnum I could stand it on its side and it clears the roof by an inch, then put the suitcases beside it. To bad they don't make a Magnum version of the 2015 Charger!
Overall I still want one, but 40k is hard to justify right now when mine is paid for and only has 100k miles. We will be getting a Buick Enclave for the wife soon and that will be the kid and luggage hauler. When it's my turn to buy a car again I'm pretty sure I will get a B5 Blue Charger with Black and Pearl Interior.
